New 23-24 AGPM Curriculum:

Major Qualification
To qualify for the AGPM major, students must complete the following Major Qualification courses:

ARTG 10
And one of the following:

ARTG 20 or ARTG 25 or ARTG 30

And either of these two courses
ARTG 40 or ARTG 50

Foundational Courses

 Complete the following 3 courses:
● ARTG 10 – Aesthetic Design
● ARTG 40 – Designing Experiences
● ARTG 50 – Play as a Radical Endeavor

and 1 of the following courses:

● ARTG 20 – Games as Art
● ARTG 25 – Games as Art and Activism
● ARTG 30 – Games as Activism

History of Art and Visual Culture Requirement
Complete any one 5-credit History of Art and Visual Culture (HAVC) course. This can be either a lower- or upper-division course.

 

Upper Division Courses
The Upper Division coursework for the AGPM major will consist of a minimum of 8 total Upper Division courses. At least 4 of these 8 courses must be ARTG courses, and a minimum of one ARTG course must be taken from each of 3 Topic Areas: Craft Refinement, Social Interventions, and Performance, Portfolio + Exhibition.

Craft Refinement
Complete at least one course from the following list:
ARTG 137 Experimental TTRPG Design

ARTG 118 Character Creation for Video Games
ARTG 131 3D Game Art Production
ARTG 132 3D Character Rigging and Animation for Video Games

Social Interventions
Complete at least one course from the following list:

Students must complete one ARTG course that satisfies the Disciplinary Communication (DC) graduation requirement and one ARTG course that satisfies the Senior Comprehensive (SC) graduation requirement. The courses that meet these requirements are noted below – all of these courses also satisfy AGPM Topic Area requirements.

One course cannot fulfill both DC and Senior Comprehensive requirements, but one or both courses can also fulfill a topic area requirement.

Disciplinary Communication (DC) Requirement
Students of every major must satisfy that major’s upper-division disciplinary communication (DC) requirement. The DC requirement in Art and Design: Games and Playable Media is satisfied by completing one of the following performance and exhibition courses:

ARTG 180 Games as Personal Narrative
ARTG 181 Portfolios + Artistic Authorship

Senior Comprehensive Requirement (SC)
Students satisfy the senior comprehensive requirement by receiving a passing grade in one of the following performance and exhibition courses:
